Our aim is to provide forever homes for high energy dogs. We prioritise snowdogs and take every care to ensure we make the perfect personality match between you and your potential furry companion.
We often find that, through no fault of the dog, peoples circumstances may change and the dog needs a new home.
Often the dog and family circumstances are not a perfect match and this becomes difficult for both the family and dog to cope. When the family/owners no longer cope with their high energy dog, we can accept the dog into our shelter.
The new pack member will then be assessed, psychologically, physically and behaviourally and we will decide how the dog needs rehabilitating.
A suitable program will then be devised and implemented to help any dogs adjust to their new environment and prepare them for its future forever home.
Because SnowdogShelter specialises in high energy dogs, we seek a home where a more active lifestyle is pursued by at least one member of the family, the preference being towards an active walker, Canicross or for them to be skilled in off-road cycling.
We recommend that if you were to get one of our shelter animals that you seek training in Canicross, Bikejoring, and/or Dry-Land Mushing. It is important that the new owner takes the time to understand the demands of many snowdogs. Potentially they are Strong Minded and Independent Thinkers.
Special skills may need to be developed in order to provide a successful transition for your new companion into your home.
